Terms of use

The terms for using abandonedtowns.com: information is for planning only, visit at your own risk, and how content and photos may be reused.

Who we are

abandonedtowns.com (Abandoned Towns) is owned and operated by Gunnar Bengtsson. By using the site you agree to these terms.

Information, not permission

Abandoned Towns is a guide for planning. Conditions at ghost towns change without notice, and we can be wrong or out of date. Check access, land ownership, road conditions and weather with the land manager or local authorities before you go.

A guide describing a place, giving its coordinates or routing a drive to it is not permission to enter. Respect posted signs, gates and closures, and get permission before going onto private land, active mining claims or tribal land.

Your safety

Abandoned sites are dangerous: open shafts, unstable buildings, bad air, rattlesnakes, heat, cold and roads far from help. You visit at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, Abandoned Towns is not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from use of the site or a visit to a place described on it.

Artifacts and the law

Removing artifacts can be a crime on federal land under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, and it is theft on private land. Look, photograph and leave things where they lie.

Our content

The text, maps we draw and site design are ours; please don't republish them without asking. Short quotations with a link back are fine. Photos belong to their authors and are used under the licence credited beside each one; you may reuse them under that licence, from the source we link. USGS maps are public domain.

What you send us

When you send a visit report, you let us publish it, edited for length and clarity, on the guide with the name you gave. When you send photos and give permission, you confirm you took them and let us publish them on the site with your name as credit. You keep all other rights. We may decline or remove any submission.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. Questions: [email protected]. See also the privacy policy.
