About Grit

Grit is an unincorporated farming and ranching community established ca.1889 in Mason County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The initial settlers considered naming the community after Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Frederick Funston, but a Funston, Texas already existed in Jones County and there was concern of postal delivery confusion.

This is a site record: what public sources say about Grit, gathered in one place. We haven't written a full guide yet, so history, current access and photos are still to come. Treat the status as unknown until a guide confirms it.
